ENVIRONMENT MELA AT GDSPS

Date :                    18th May, 2018

Day :                      Friday

Venue :                GDSPS campus

The Saviours of the Environment of GDSPS painted the school green by organising an Environment Mela in the school campus.

The Mela was aptly themed ‘Let's Sync with Nature’, as the purpose of the mela was to sensitize everyone about environment and how they can save the Mother Earth.

Sh. Rajesh Suri, Director GDSPS, inaugurated the Environment Mela. This was followed by the sapling plantation by the oldest pillars of the institution Sh Dixit, Ms. Simmi Malik, Ms. Seema Hamrol and two MTS workers, Sh Ramnath and Smt Rukmani.

The Mela commenced with the anthem--- Namami Gange by the school choir.

A Nukkad Natak on Swachchta was presented by the school theatre students. The dance group through their dance depicted the plight of the trees and how the trees are pleasing to the humanity, with the message to let them live.

The students enjoyed the day by participating in the activity/ games stall which were based on the environment. Students had also put up stalls of items made from paper: bags, file covers, envelopes, gift boxes

A pledge tree was also put up where the staff and students adorned the tree with their pledge to do one green deed a day.

Students of Class IX put a stall of T-Shirt bags which they had made on their own from the old T-shirts.

The saviours team had a stall of the Nature's Stock, showing how the man is moving back to his basics by selling things made from recycled cloth material and earthen pots.

A collection counter was also put up to collect old material for ‘Neki Ki Deewar’, initiative of Salwan Boys School. Collection of E-waste was done which was sent to SPS, RN for recycling and cloth bags have been made out of old bedsheets and curtains.

Waste paper collected was sent to Jagruti, an NGO, for recycling.

The saviours gifted one cloth bag each to the MTS, sensitizing them also about the environment.

The Mela ended with an Environment Marathon in which all the students and staff participated with an aim to care about the Mother Earth.
