Republic Day

‘Freedom in Mind, Faith in Words, Pride in our Heart, Memories in our Souls Let’s salute the Nation on Republic Day

Republic Day of India is celebrated annually on 26th of January since 1950. It is celebrated by the Indian people all over India to remember the date on which Indian Constitution came into force.

Gyan Devi Salwan Public School celebrated India’s 69th Republic Day on 25th January’2018 in the school ground. The patriotic fervour warmed up the cold winter morning as the teachers and children enthusiastically gathered to celebrate the occasion. The school Chairman, Maj. Gen. Maninder Singh Ghai, in his address to the gathering, expressed pride in the valour, courage and strength of the country. He urged every student to work with honesty and dedication for the nation.

The programme commenced with a joyous and vibrant dance set on a mellifluous welcome song sung by the school choir. The melodious music and graceful movements of the dancers were mesmerizing. They articulated beautiful patterns with colourful dupattas which left the spectators spell bound. It was a morning of extraordinary display of enthusiasm and confidence by our little ones.

The most intriguing aspect, embellishing the event, were the splendid field displays, involving mass student participation, which splattered a riot of vibrant colours while the theme ‘Sports’ was displayed. The programme included Zumba dance by classes’ I-III, Aerobics by the girls of classes VI-VIII and yoga by the students of classes IV & VIII.

Khukuri Dance which was performed by the boys of Primary & Middle wing depicted the strength and alertness of Gorkhas, one of the most celebrated regiments of Indian Army having an unblemished record of battle honours and courage since its inception in 1815. The boys danced in unison and brought out the true valour of this regiment.

Students participated in all activities with full patriotic fervour and zeal.

At last, the young achievers of various races were facilitated with medals by the dignitaries, who highly appreciated each sport’s star.

Visit to Book Fair

Venue: Pragati Maidan, New Delhi

Date & Time: 11 January 2018, 10.30 AM onwards

The New Delhi World Book Fair (NDWBF), which has emerged as one of the most significant events in the publishing world, was held in the Capital during January 6-14 at Pragati Maidan. The fair, organised by National Book Trust, India, promotes titles, trade, co-publication titles and – above all – the habit of reading. The fair serves as a meeting point of readers and publishers and had started in 1972 with only 200 participants. Over the years it has grown exponentially and had 886 and 800 participants as publishers in 2016 and 2017, respectively. The fair’s theme was ‘Manushi’ and had focused on writings on and by women from ancient times till the present. Considering the ramifications of climate change and in a bid to promote the same, this year the theme of the event was “Environment & Climate Change”

The event also witnessed participation from major publishing houses all across the globe. More than 35 countries participated.

Teachers from our school also witnessed the beautiful collections of books in NDWBF. Surrounded by books took us to a different world and we experienced nirvana being lost in books. We visited the stalls of various publishers and saw some very good books that can be used in our school to make learning more joyful through interesting activities.

Overall it was a magical experience.
