INTER-HOUSE RADIO SHOW COMPETITION

Topic:  Doing away with the school based Board exam and the No- Detention Policy till Class V will improve the academic standards

An Inter- House Radio Show Competition for Classes IX- XI was organized on 25th November, 2016 in the Amphitheatre. The theme for the same was ‘Doing away with the school based Board exam and the No- Detention Policy till Class V will improve the academic standards’.
Aims:      To abreast them with latest amendments in the policies of CBSE
To encourage them for effective communication
To build their confidence
Learning Outcomes: The students who participated and those who attended thoroughly enjoyed. All the participants performed confidently and enthusiastically and understood the message well.

WORKSHOP ON TEACHING ENGLISH TO YOUNG LEARNERS

A workshop on “Teaching English to Young Learners” was organised by Macmillan to apprise the English teachers of new ELT methodologies and help them enhance their teaching skills. The workshop was conducted by Mr. Alan Mackenzie, Academic Director, NILE. The workshop was held with an objective to extend understanding and awareness of
·         Teaching Skills and Systems with a focus on Receptive skills- Listening and Reading
·         Using story telling as an effective tool for language development
·         Exploring communicative games for language development
Various approaches to language learning and receptive skills in language learning were covered. The training, both in methodology and language, empowered the teachers to create positive learning environment.

GREEN OLYMPIAD

 

Date: 22nd November 2016
Venue : GDSPS
Participants: Students of classes IV & V

GDSPS organized Green Olympiad, which was conducted by The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) on 22nd November 2016 in the school premises. 97 students of class IV and V participated in it. It was an excellent opportunity for students to test their Environmental Quotient.
Questions were woven around environmental issues, with direct linkage to the school curriculum, which assessed environment- related sensitivity of the students.

ECONOMICS OLYMPIADFOR CLASS XI &XII

Obejective :To test students’ knowledge and develop a sense of competition among students

An economics Olympiad was conducted for the students of class XI& XII. The test comprised of 50 questions both from their text and current affairs.

KG Activities

 

PEC Activity: Body Shapes


PEC Activity for the month was organised to foster students' understanding of body shapes and  relationship between body parts when making these shapes. Students learnt basic movement shapes of the body. This helped improve their muscle strength and balance on different body parts.

 

 

 

PEC Activity: Static Balance
PEC Activity: Static Balance helped in enhancing students' skill in balancing. Static balance is the ability to maintain one's balance when not moving. Through the activity, students were able to improve their muscle strength by balancing on large body parts.

 

 

 

Children's Day celebrated with fun and frolic
To celebrate the birth anniversary of our beloved leader Pt. Nehru, who loved the children very much, various fun activities and events like pithoo, feed the joker and ring toss were organized for the students on Wednesday, 16.11.2016. These fun activities were organized to encourage students to interact and communicate and be more sympathetic towards one another, thus fostering understanding.

 

 

 

 

Special Assembly: Gurpurab
Satguru Nanak Pragateya, Mitti Dhund Jag Chaanan Hoya . . .
The Prakash Utsav, i.e., the Birth Anniversary of the first Sikh Guru, Guru Nanak Devji was celebrated with spiritual fervour and faith by the Montessori wing of Gyan Devi Salwan Public School on Wednesday, 16.11.2016.
A special assembly was put up by the students of Nursery C. The assembly began with a ‘Prabhat Pheri’ i.e. morning procession, with students dressed in traditional Punjabi attires. The procession was led by five children who were dressed up as the ‘Punj Pyare.’
The students were made aware of the significance of the day. The recitation of ‘Mool Mantra’ was followed by shabads. Their innocence reflected a divine glow. With their hands folded, eyes closed and heads bowed, the little ones recited soul touching shabads.
The Assembly came to an end with the distribution of Kadah Prasad to the entire sangat.
The spiritual ambience created by the devotional songs and chants was highly appreciated by the parents.

 

 

 

Inter-class General Knowledge Quiz Competition:
An Inter-class General Knowledge Quiz Competition on the theme Plants, trees, flowers, fruits and vegetables was organized for class KG. The Preliminary Round was conducted on Tuesday, 22.11.2016. Five participants from each section competed in the Final Round on Thursday, 24.11.2016. Each participant displayed a lot of zeal and enthusiasm while attempting to answer the questions posed by the Quiz Master Ms. Jaswinder Kaur. The quiz comprised of oral questions, riddles, puzzles and visual rounds. The participants as well as the audience thoroughly enjoyed these rounds that tested how proficient they were with the concept of Plants. Class KG-A was declared as the winning team beating the team of KG-B by a close margin. It was a very informative and knowledge enriching competition for the participants along with the audience.

 

 

 

Frog Race: Let’s hop
To enhance the students' motor skills, Frog Race was organised on Tuesday, 29.11.2016. using self-made frog head bands. The students of class KG participated hopping like a frog by crouching down and leaping forward. Engaging them into such fun-filled activities help inculcates a feeling of joy, team-spirit and cooperation.

 

 

Kalakriti: an inter-school art festival
The school organised Kalakriti, an inter-school art festival on Wednesday, 30.11.2016. The theme of the festival was School Education. The event was organized in four categories - Drawing & Colouring, Clay Moulding, Origami and Model made out of waste. A team of renowned artists comprising of Ms. Purnima Sharma, Ms. Shilpa Arora and Mr. Kulbhushan Kumar judged the artifacts made by around 100 participants from various eminent schools in Delhi and NCCR. The participants received Appreciation Certificates and gifts.
