INTERNATIONAL COMMERCE OLYMPIAD - 2014
The students of class XI and XII participated in the Sixth International Commerce Olympiad on 27th November 2014. The result for the same was as follows:
School Topper (XII)         :              Gaurav Yadav  with 95.80% (percentile)  received certificate of
                                                    merit and certificate of excellence.

Science Exhibition- 20142014


With a view to encourage, popularize and inculcate scientific temper among the students, G D Salwan Public School organized  Science Exhibition on PTM held on 29th November, 2014, wherein students  showcased their knowledge and talent in science and its applications in different areas related to our everyday life. Models exhibited in the exhibition were a part of Formative Assessment, which were prepared by the students in different group activities. The students of classes I-XI exhibited their models in their class rooms. Models like Future park, sustainable city, hydraulic lift and bridge, energy saving buildings using magnetic sensors, wind energy farms, home-made air-conditioner, hybrid car, heal-copter, auto guarded anti collision car, to name a few.

INTER HOUSE INSTRUMENTAL JUGAL BANDI COMPETITION


An inter house Jugal bandi competition was held on 28th November 2014. Students from each house presented a musical composition by playing both the Indian and the western musical instruments in harmony and rhythm. The musical presentations of the students left the audience spellbound.

November Activities (KG)


Special Assembly: Gurupurab
A special Assembly showcasing the relevance of Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s birthday was organized for the tiny tots on Monday, 03 November 2014. The atmosphere was devotional and blissful everywhere. Students came dressed in traditional attires, sang hymns and gave speeches. The students recited ‘Mool Mantra’ that filled the hearts of everyone present with mixed feeling of love, gratitude and devotion. Through the celebrations the students were taught the teachings of Guru Nanak Dev. The teachers wished prosperity and peace to all while highlighting the need to follow Guru's teachings.

 

Children’s Day Celebration
A day marking childhood, Children’s Day celebrations focus on children and their enjoyment. Children's Day was celebrated at GD Salwan Montessori School on Friday, 14 November 2014 with great enthusiasm. Celebrations began with a prayer which was followed by a play ‘Ramayana’ enacted by the students of Primary wing. Students also had a great fun on the Bouncy. Students enjoyed a lot and carried with them memories of a happy day.

 

 

Inter-Class Fancy Dress Competition: Great Indian Personalities
Scholastic and co-scholastic activities have an equal importance in school programme for the all-round development of the child. Keeping this in view, GD Salwan Public School conducted Fancy Dress Competition on Tuesday, 25 November 2014 for the students of class KG. The purpose of conducting the competition was not only to blend learning with fun but also to develop confidence in the little ones by giving them an opportunity to get on the stage and speak in front of an audience. The theme was - Great Personalities of India. Students came dressed in colourful costumes and spoke a few sentences on the character that they depicted. The effort and hard work of children was highly commendable. Winners of the competition are as follows:

PEC Activity
Using PEC Cards is the first focused and structured approach for delivering Physical Education in early childhood period. Children love to play with a ball. In order to demonstrate their ability to establish control and concentration, the PEC activity for the month included different activities using a ball like - standing back to back and passing the ball, making a circle and passing the ball, bouncing and catch the ball, etc.

Swachhta Abhiyan at  the  Buddha Jayanti Garden

Its not just the school ,neighbourhood or house……….Salwanians take an initiative to clean the public places too! 

Swach Bharat is Shresth Bharat for The Salwan Education Trust  

The Salwan Education Trust has pledged to keep its campus and neighbourhood clean, as a part of ‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyan’ initiative of the Government of India. 

All the Salwanschools, under the aegis ofSalwan Education Trust  participated in the SwachhtaAbhiyan with full zeal.  The Trust has  always promoted and aimed at creating a  clean and green  Delhi since time immemorial. As a part of this programme the Salwan Education Trust organizied theSwachhtaAbhiyanat  the  Buddha Jayanti Garden,Ridge Road, on 30th Nov’14 where more than 700 young Salwanians, around fifty  teachers , the Principals of the Salwan Schools and more than a hundred  Multi Tasking Staff helped in cleaning the area.

The event took  place under the guidance of  Ms. MeenakshiLekhi , Member of Parliament and Supreme Court of India lawyer and  Sh.SushilDuttSalwan,Hon’bleChairman Salwan Education Trust, along with  the Managing Committee members of the park . 

The park was divided into six zones and each school was provided with a particular area.Students sawthe  sapling of the original Bodhi Tree that have been planted here and was brought all the way from Sri Lanka. Children not only learned the importance of cleanliness but at the same time were instilled with important values  like team spirit and  patriotism.Everyone admired the sprawling green lawns, sloping terrain, mammoth trees ,streams, a  range of colourful flowers and paved pathways, which looked  even more beautiful after the cleanliness drive.

Spic Macay

 

Under the aegis of Spic Macay as part of Virasat 2014. GDSPS, Rajinder Nagar, New Delhi conducted a lecture cum demonstration of Kathak Dance Form by eminent Kathak Dance exponent, Smt. Rani Khanam on 26th November 2014. Ma’am is an outstanding performer, brilliant choreographer and one of the few dancers who excel in projecting the traditional aspects of Kathak Dance.

The Programme commenced by welcoming the artists by the Principal, followed by a prayer invoking the blessings of God by lighting a lamp

Smt. Rani Khanam was accompanied by her disciple and a team of musicians, Programme lasted for one hour and everyone thoroughly enjoyed the performance. Students were explained the meaning of different steps of dance. It was truly a great learning experience for one and all in the audience.

 

 

 

 

Workshop on Computer Science By Harper Collins


A Computer workshop was organized on 22 November, 2014, in G.D. Salwan Public School for the Computer teachers of all the sister schools of  Salwan Education Trust. The resource person was Ms. Mohini Arora, HOD Computer Science Department.

The Programme commenced with the welcome speech by HOD Maths- Mr Ganesh Chandra.
He warmly welcomed the guest and teachers from various schools of Salwan to the Programme.

 

Ms. Mohini started her lecture by first explaining the meaning of Computer Science and its importance in our day to day lives. She focuses more on how dynamic this subject is. It was followed by a short interactive session that brought out the fact that computer is basically a practical subject and students are more interested in learning computers through practical’s rather than using theoretical approach. It can be made more interesting through the use of hands on approach and learning by doing approach. The next important point was the integration of this subject with the curriculum. IT is used every where, in almost all sphere of life.

 

She emphasized the fact that introduction and implementation of computer science requires serious thought. She introduced a series of books by Collins which can strengthens the system of assessment and evaluation and helps in teaching the children using new methods.

 

She emphasizes on various features of the book and also book adhere to NCF 2005.

She explained in detail a topic “movie making –using Windows Movie maker” in Session II . Movie maker is basically freeware video editing software which is easily available and compatible with all media players.
In all, the workshop was truly a great learning experience. The teachers definitely felt better equipped for teaching Computer Science.

A workshop on Heart related problems like cardiac arrest or heart attack was conducted by Dr. Subhash Chandra, renowned cardiologist from Dr. BLK Super Specialty Hospital. The workshop informed about the signs, symptoms of heart problems and what precautions can be taken to avoid the problems.  The participants asked the queries and got the advice by the doctor. The workshop was interactive and informative for everyone.

Child Rights Day


Nine is Mine hosted the ‘Child rights day’ celebration workshop on 20 November 2014 at Dilli Haat, where the students of G.D.Salwan Public School participated along with another 100 students from various schools across the city. The event included interesting sessions like quiz, sharing experiences, screening of short documentary movies, slogan writing and poster making. These sessions provided a platform for the students to share their views on what they understand by child rights and what are their expectations from the society ,the government and the world over.

GDSPS Hosted Quiz U.S.A

 

GDSPS HOSTED QUIZ USA, an Inter-School Quiz Competition, organized by the Embassy of United States on 19, November 2014 for classes IX to XII. The quiz was conducted by Mr. Aditya Nath Mubayi from Quizcraft. The quiz got an overwhelming response with participation of 124 schools from Delhi and NCR. About 300 students and teachers from various schools attended the program and enjoyed the competition. Mrs Vijay Laxmi Singh , Principal GDSPS welcomed Mr. Branden Young Deputy North India Co-ordinator and a member of the Expanded Professional Associates Program (EPAP) in Public Diplomacy at the U.S Embassy New Delhi ,  Mrs Indu Wadhwa Program Manager Cultural Affair Officer U.S Embassy and Mr. Aditya Nath Mubayi Knowledge Entrepreneur, Quizmaster , Founder Quizcraft Global . She encouraged the huge gathering of participants from various schools to learn more about 21st century learning. The guest, Mr. Branden Young, thanked GDPSP for their support in organising this mega event. The quiz master put the students through several paces – written, oral, visual and rapid fire, buzzer rounds.  The quiz was focused on general knowledge of American history, geography, society, personalities, elections, government, culture and current affairs. The top three winning teams won exciting prizes – IPAD Air (1st prize) IPAD (2nd prize) and IPAD Nano  (3rd prize). Delhi Public School, Noida emerged as winner, 1st runner up was the team from Sanskriti School and 2nd runner up the team from Springdales School . The event had a resounding success in Delhi.

WORKSHOP ON PERSONAL HYGIENE

GD Salwan Public School, Rajinder Nagar conducted a workshop on Personal Hygiene for classes II & III on 17 November, 2014. It helped the students to know more about the importance of cleanliness and personal hygiene.
The main objective of the workshop was to create awareness and to encourage the students to maintain personal hygiene.
A video was shown to the students which helped them to know   why personal hygiene is important and what are the ill effects and diseases caused by not following it. The students were also told about the importance of environmental cleanliness as it may also cause severe diseases like filarial, diarrhea etc.
 Students learnt about the importance of personal hygiene.

EXCURSION TO SIMLA


GD Salwan Public School has organised an excursion to Simla from 12th November, 2014 to 16th November, 2014.  40 students of Class X and XI were a part of this trip, where students were welcomed to Himuda Appartment, Simla – the Salwan Resorts. They admired the breath taking beauty of nature and visited kufri for sightseeing and Chahal Palace for the lunch.
The next day students were taken for trekking and the students enjoyed the adventure activities including river crossing at Naldhera. Then they were taken to Manla Resort. They had an evening full of fun with dance and DJ at Manla Resorts, Manla.
They also visited  Forensic Laboratory Head Quarters, Simla  wherein  they observed the working of various departments including DNA lab, Physics Lab, Chemistry Lab , Toxicology lab. They also visited  Sathya Sai Temple and Mall road.
It was a great fun and learning trip  for the students.

ACTIVITES UNDERTAKEN:

We the students of G.D SALWAN Commit that we will not throw any garbage or waste on roads, Streets or any other public place. We shall dispose the waste in dustbin and keep our country clean.

  4. Teachers explained the students about the need for clean environment . To carry on the cleanliness drive, students cleaned their classrooms and desks using old clothes and brooms. The students have made it a part of their daily routine and keep the classrooms clean and tidy.  All waste is thrown in the respective bins.
  5. Environment  in-charge Ms. Alka Bhatia also explained the importance to cleanliness to staff and drivers of the school.


OUTCOMES:

CBSE CLUSTER XII ATHLETIC MEET- RUN FOR UNITY- 2014

 

G.D.Salwan public school, Rajinder Nagar  organised ‘RUN FOR UNITY 2014’, CBSE Cluster Athletic Meet  from 6th November -8th November 2014. The  Chief guest for the opening ceremony was  Ms. Meenakshi Lekhi , Member of Parliament in Lok Sabha  from New Delhi . The other distinguished guests who graced the occasion were Smt. Janak Juneja, Hon’ble Chairperson , GDSPS, Maj. Gen. Navneet Khanna , Director, GDSPS, CBSE and members from the RWA, Rajinder Nagar.
The programme commenced with the  majestic march past by  the Rajputana Rifles leading the contingents of participating athletes  from schools all over Delhi, followed by the torch relay. Shivam Shukla, Sports Captain GDSPS and a National Level athlete handed over  the torch to the honourable chief guest who declare the meet open. It was followed by the release of Tricolour balloons .
The highlight of the day was  Ganesh Vandana and Jugalbandi dance performance  presented by the  students. The dancers looked resplendent in their ethnic costumes. The ground reverberated with the enchanting melodious music.
The Chief Guest, Ms. Meenakshi Lekhi, lauded the synergistic efforts of the participants and was overwhelmed by the performances, in her encouraging address to the gathering. She concluded with the undertaking of the SWACHH BHARAT Pledge, by one and all present.
The school Principal, Ms. Vijaylaxmi Singh enlightened the gathering that in this era of computerization and globalization where our lives have become so stressful, sports and games have just not only become getaway for recreation, but also impart values like discipline, responsibility, self-confidence, sacrifice and accountability, which are crucial for staying ahead in this age.

Vigilance Awareness Week 2014
A myriad of activities to observe Vigilance Awareness Week from 26th October to 1st November were conducted. A Special Assembly on the theme “Combating corruption-Technology as an enabler.”was conducted to encourage the students to fight against corruption The highlights of the assembly included a talk on the rise of corruption and the role of citizens in combating corruption. The pledge on combating corruption was administered and the students promised to play the role of active and vigilant citizens of the country.
Several activities such as Debates ,Seminar, Symposium and Slogan writing on diverse topics focusing on various issues of corruption, were conducted.

Katha Writer’s Workshop: A CBSE Initiative
GDSPS hosted the CBSE Katha Writer’s workshop on 3-4 November 2014, where around 250 students from various schools across the city participated with great enthusiasm.  
The event included interesting sessions like Art of Story Telling, Poetry, Skills of Observation, HAIKU NEST, Rhythm Rhyme, Script a story, Wings of a story – Narrations and Illustrations, Adventures with a writer and Story Newsroom. These sessions provided improvisation tips on writing poetry, introduction to ‘Haiku’(traditional Japanese poetry), knowledge on the art of story building ( through group activities) and information on good story writing skills and story narration.

Rashtriya Ekta Diwas Celebrated
A host of activities to mark the National Unity Day on the occasion of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel’s birth anniversary on 31 October, 2014 was undertaken. A Special Assembly was conducted on the occasion,  where the students and staff took the Rashtriya Ekta Diwas Pledge. The highlights of the assembly included a talk on the personality and values of Sardar Patel. The thought of the day also focused on the strength that a country has when all stand united. The school Principal, Ms. Vijay Laxmi singh, enlightened the students on the theme of unity and integrity and made the students aware of the role of Sardar Patel in bringing the diverse culture together post independence. The following activities were conducted as part of the celebrations : Run for Unity(Marathon), Art Competition on topics ‘Keeping Public Places Clean’, ‘Unity and Integrity’ and ‘Safety and Security,  Quiz on the life of Sardar Vallabh bhai Patel, his values and contribution towards the Indian Freedom Struggle.’, Music Competition and a plethora of literary activities including Story Writing,  Essay Writing on the themes ‘Patriotism’ and ‘Unity is Everyone’s Duty’ and Debate Competition on the theme  ‘Rivers Know no Boundaries’.

Workshop on Centre for Assessment Evaluation and Research Module II

The workshop started with welcome and introduction by Dr. (Mrs.) Indu Khetarpal. After revising the basic terms and key terms and key aspects of Modern Assessment Theory, the speaker, Ms. Jayanti Prasad, along with her team of master trainers, explained about writing constructed response items for short answer type items. The workshop was taken ahead by guided practice activity for writing short answer type items. Then writing constructed response for essay type answers was discussed. The speaker also explained the concept of table of specification and its benefits.

Guided practice was done for writing a performance task for the classroom test and identifying potential problems with constructed  items. The workshop also included making rubrics for short answer, essay and performance items for own classroom test. The session also included discussion on Findlay Index.
