Workshop on ‘Activity Based Teaching through Collaborative Learning’

GDSPS, in collaboration with Regional English Language Office (RELO), U.S. Embassy organized the Eteacher ELT Workshop on ‘Activity Based Teaching through Collaborative Learning’ on 10 May, 2016 for teachers of Salwan Schools under the aegis of Salwan Education Trust. The resource persons of the workshop were Ms. Dolly Dhawan PGT English, GDSPS and Ms. Nidhi Seth Assistant Professor, Jesus and Mary College, the E-teacher Alumni. Ms. Mukul Jha, Principal, GDSPS welcomed the resource persons and appreciated their efforts in pursuing online courses to update themselves. The entire session was designed to be rich in learning and was full of innovative activities and reflective exercises.
The first session on ‘Grammar and Jazz Chants’ was taken up by Ms. Dolly Dhawan, which included activities and games to reinforce grammar concepts in a fun way to help students overcome grammatical errors. It dealt with deductive, inductive and functional-notional approach of teaching grammar. The participants enthusiastically participated in all activities and sang the jazz chants in chorus.
The second session on ‘Creative Writing’ was dealt with Ms. Nidhi Seth, who shared ideas on creative writing. She did collaborative story writing activities to enhance students’ written expression. The enthusiastic participants developed interesting stories and shared them with the larger group. She also did creative poetry writing, which included ‘Acrostic’ poems and ‘First Time … Last Time’.
Ms. Mukul Jha, Principal, thanked the participants for their presence and gave away the participation certificates to the teachers. The workshop was participative in nature and demonstrated a variety of teaching methodologies to encourage children to be creative and enthusiastic in English Classroom sessions.

MERCURY TRANSIT


DATE: 9th May, 2016
VENUE: SPS GURGAON
ATTENDED BY: Mrs.MUKUL JHA,Ms.TRIPTI BHAGAT,Mrs.KRITI ARORA & 11 STUDENTS (SD.IX&X)

On 9th May 2016 Mercury made a transit with the Sun for the first time since 2006. This was a rare astronomical phenomenon which occurs only 13 times in a century. The planet Mercury was seen as a dot on the solar disc from several parts of India.
This event was viewed at SPS Gurgaon using an astronomical telescope. The school had invited students from all the SET schools to see the rare phenomenon at their campus. This event is scheduled to happen again on Nov 11,2019.
There was also a demonstration of how Satellites are launched into Space. The principle  of rocket propulsion into space was demonstrated and explained. Mrs Mukul  Jha-Principal  launched the demo-rocket  using rocket launching device.
The experience was very useful and informative for the students as well as teachers.

Investiture Ceremony

“Leaders are not born but are made by their experiences in life”.
Gyan Devi Salwan Public School held the Investiture Ceremony on May 7, 2016 for the academic session 2016-17 to repose in newly invested office bearers for the involvement of the students’ community in day-to-day functioning of the school, since the school believes in child centric approach. The event was presided over by the school Chairman Maj. Gen. (Retd.)  M.S. Ghai VSM, Director Sh. J, N, Chopra and Principal Ms. Mukul Jha. It was conducted with the high degree of sincerity and enthusiasm.
The ceremony was initiated with the prayer followed by a motivational song was sung beautifully by the school choir. The school was made aware of the unique election process, which familiarizes them on how democracy works in the world. The students are nominated on the basis of discipline, academics and behaviour so that they can be role models other students.
The newly appointed student council took an oath to be true to their posts and duties assigned to them. Divyam Raj was appointed as the Head Boy and Shreya Sharma was appointed as the Head Girl.
The Chief Guest and The principal madam inducted the newly elected members of the school council with ties and badges.
In his address, the Chief Guest Maj. Gen. (Retd.)  M.S. Ghai VSM congratulated the newly appointed school council members for their preparedness to take responsibilities and cautioned them against allowing such responsibilities to hinder their academics. He said “Instead use these opportunities and balance them well with academics to excel in both.” The ceremony concluded with National anthem..
