Resource Person: Dr. Harish Choudhry, Mr. Vivek Pathak
Attended by: Ms. Charu Lal and Ms. Pratima Chawla

Learning Objectives:      -To learn about latest development in Educational Research
-To understand how learning could be fun.

A workshop on ‘Innovation in Education for Next Generation” was attended by Ms. Charu Lal and Ms. Pratima Chawla at IIT Delhi on Friday, 11th March, 2016.

He drew attention towards a programme named LTP i.e. Lecture- Tutorial- Practical.
The second session was taken up by Mr. Vivek Pathak, an alumnus of  IIT Mumbai and one of the group members who have formed The Srijan group to impart the methods of ‘Learning by Doing’ which runs on the motto- ‘Involve Me and I’ll never forget’. Mr. Vivek Pathak showed some models to explain Newton’s law of motion, displacement of molecules and Fleming’s Right Hand Law.
He also cited examples from everyday happenings which involve Archimedes’ Principle. His main aim was to relate science with routine processes.

Learning Outcomes: The models could be installed in school labs which would benefit students for long-lasting learning.

Making Space for Learning Physics through Activities

DATE: 19th March 2016
Venue: Birla Vidya Niketan, Pushp Vihar, New Delhi.
Attended by: Students of XII A - Rohit Sharma & Abhinav Bisht,  Ms. Kuljeet Kaur, TGT (Science)

To enhance the classroom teaching methodologies with more practical approach, an interactive programme on ‘Learning Physics through Innovative Activities’ was organized by BVN-IAPT ANVESHIKA.

The Chief Guest of the programme was Dr. S.C. Kuntia, Secretory, Govt. of India. In his address, he emphasised on learning physics through innovative methods with interesting experiments. He also discussed about two new programmes, Physics Olympiad and Rashtriya Avishkar Award, to inculcate the spirit of science and mathematics amongst students.

The first of the workshop was a lecture on ‘Matter Waves’ by Dr H.C. Verma, Professor of Physics at IIT Kanpur. He explained the students about characteristics of waves and how matter waves are being produced. He also explained the phenomenon of interference and diffraction produced by electrons through pictures taken from the magazine - New Journal of Physics.

The second session dealt with ‘Making Space for Learning through Activities’. This session had stage presentation of various exhibits, their analysis by participants and then Moderation by Dr H.C. Verma. The student participants  showcased new exhibits of their interest, explained their working followed by discussion of physics concepts behind it.Various exhibits were Fan with  motor and sail, weighing machine activity, conservation of angular momentum through wheel, concept of pressure through soap bubbles, syringe with hot water and thermometer, concept of surface tension to name a few. It was appreciable to see difficult principles and concepts of physics explained through low cost equipment.

Grand Parents’ Day

"Nobody can do for little children what grandparents do.
Grandparents sort of sprinkle stardust over the lives of little children." - Alex Haley

As one of the School’s most treasured traditions, Grandparents’ Day is an important piece of our on-going relationship with these special people in our students’ lives. The school has been celebrating this special day for the past 12 years, when students honour their grandparents. The aim is to bring about a positive change in the outlook of the present generation. To recognize and honour their role, Gyan Devi Salwan Montessori School hosted the annual Grandparents’ Day on Saturday, 05 March, 2016.
The students were accompanied by their grandparents to school. The programme commenced with a prayer presented by the teachers, and a welcome poem by Suhana Mehta from KG-B. This was followed by a group dance Vande Matram by KG students, and a story enactment by students of Nursery A and song presentations by Nursery B and C. The cultural programme culminated with a beautiful dance performance by KG students on the song ‘Dadaji ki chadi hun main’. Hon’ble Chairman, Gyan Devi Salwan Montessori School, Maj. Gen. Ghai, appreciated the efforts of grandparents in imbibing values in grandchildren.
A number of fun activities were organized for the grandparents, wherein they enthusiastically participated. Other activities had a while-hearted participation of the grandparents, such as making photo frames with their grandchildren. The programme culminated with the prize distribution ceremony. The success of the event was evident through the happy and joyful smiles of the grandparents.  The day left many memories to be cherished.
