HOUSE EXTEMPORE COMPETITION

Classes IV-V


One has rightly said, “For effective extempore, a candidate must be fluent, erudite and well-articulated.” An extempore is an impromptu speech where an orator is required to speak on the spot, on a given topic.
An Inter House Extempore Competition was conducted on 30th July.  This activity gave the students a platform to express their ideas effectively. The length and breadth of knowledge that they gained through this was simply unparalleled.
The topics for the extempore were as follows:

 

The First prize was won by Tejasv Sehgal of Ambar House, followed by Ryan Khattar of Agni House scoring the second position and the third position was shared by Sohan Das of Amrit and Kriti Kedia of Achal of House.

INTER-HOUSE BADMINTON MATCH

Inter-House Badminton matches for Primary Classes were held in July 2016 in the school ground. To begin with, all the five houses participated in the league round to be selected for the finals, which was primarily conducted to enable the players to exhibit their talent, skills and performance. The enthusiastic crowd of audience waved, cheered and motivated them to win.

RUN FOR RIO


In order to create 'Olympic Fever' in the country ahead of next month's multi-sporting spectacle in Brazil, Prime Minister Narendra Modi flagged off 'Run for Rio' event at India Gate on July 31, 2016.  Thousands of people including around 20,000 school childrenjoined the run to give their support to the Olympic athletes. The Run commenced from Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium (MDCNS) India Gate, and ended at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium (JNS) Lodhi Road. The Prime Minister also released a publication of SAI on “Indian Olympics Journey”, which carries interesting information on our country’s Olympics achievements and preparations for the future.  The objective of the Run was not only to demonstrate to our athletes that the whole country is proud of them and wishes them all the best in the forthcoming Rio Olympics competitions, but also to connect public at large, especially children and youth, with the Olympic spirit and power of sports. It carries the slogan “RUN FOR RIO – KHELO AUR JIYO.”
7 students from our school also participated in the run and received medals for finishing the Run. Akshay Aggarwal of class XI bagged the 8th position.

INTER-HOUSE ELOCUTION COMPETITION


Date:  30th July, 2016
Topic:  Zero Energy Buildings, Indian v/s Western

An Inter- House Elocution Competition was organized on 30thJuly.2016 in the school MPH. The theme was
Zero Energy Buildings- Indian v/s Western.
The participants presented their well-researched views on the topic.

Aims:     To allow them to research on zero energy buildings
To make them aware about the eco friendly buildings
To build confidence in them

Learning Outcomes:       They were able to express their views effectively through their power of
eloquence.
They were able to explore about zero energy buildings.

INTER HOUSE FOOTBALL MATCH


An Inter-House football match was organized for the students of classes IX-XI at Gyan Devi Salwan Public School grounds, from 25th to 27th July 2016. It was held in two phases- Semi Final and Final. Teams were divided in five groups (one team per house i.e. - Agni, Avni, Achal, Amber and Amrit). The team of Agni House won the match by 3-2 in Tie breaker.

INTER-SALWAN  SCIENCE FEST


Date: 23rd July, 2016
Venue: Salwan Public School, Gurgaon

The Inter Salwan Science Fest was hosted by Salwan Public School; Gurgaon on 23rd July 2016. It was a great platform to provide an exposure to the students and enhance their scientific temperament.
A host of activities were organized to make science accessible, engaging, and fun for everyone. The Fest was divided into four groups as per the classes with different topics.
The students of classes IV and V participated in experimentation and demonstration part of the fest based on Science behind Miracles.
A team of 4 students- Mohd. Hamza (IV), Rudra Dev (IV ), Gaurav Kar(V ), Parth Arora (V ) participated in the Quiz Competition and reached the level of IV position.
Utkarsh Sehgal (VIII) and DhruvTandon (VII) participated in the ‘Paper Presentation’. The topic for the same was “Space Vision 2020”.
The event ‘Inquisitive Impulses’ was about presentation of the model on the theme Disaster Management. Vidhi Maheshwari and Vedant Dawaria of (XI) presented the model of Earthquake Alert and bagged the III position.
The event Create and innovate, an on-the-spot activity wherein to create a model with the help of a kit provided to the participants. They secured I position in this event. The participants were Prattyush Kala (VI), Archit Sehgal (VII),Rayaan Khan (VIII), Manav Saini(IX)and Abhishek Sharma (X).
Students conducted all the activities with zeal and enthusiasm and enjoyed being a part of this great event.

INTER-HOUSE DEBATE COMPETITION

Topic:  Ubiquity of e- Books Makes Reading Archaic 

An Inter- House Debate Competition was organized on 22nd July.2016 in the school MPH. The theme for the same was Ubiquity of e- Books Makes Reading Archaic. 
A debater and an interjector were nominated from each house from classes IX to XI.

Aims:    To allow the students to explore the advantages and disadvantages of e- Books
To build their confidence level
To enhance their critical thinking
Learning Outcomes:       to express their views with conviction.
to enable the students to cross question and give relevant answers.

मुंशी प्रेमचंद के जन्मदिवस के उपलक्ष्य में हिंदी साहित्य के छायावाद के प्रमुख साहित्यकारों की स्मृति में एक विशेष सभा का आयोजन  २२ जुलाई को किया गया I इस सभा में सुमित्रानंदन पन्त, महादेवी वर्मा और जयशंकर प्रसाद की प्रसिद्ध कविताओं का पाठ किया गया और महादेवी वर्मा के प्रसिद्ध संस्मरण 'घीसा' का नाट्य रूपांतर दिखाया गया I

VISIT TO KARGIL FOR VIJAY DIWAS CELEBRATIONS

Visit to Kargil


Quartered in snow, silent to remain.
When the bugle calls, they shall rise and march again.
The soldiers in Kargil actually live the above proverb. In order to appreciate and get a taste of the life conditions of our soldiers, a group of five students from Gyan Devi Salwan public school visited Kargil along with the principal Ms. Mukul Jha and faculty member Mr. Prabhat Sharma on the occasion of the Vijay Diwas. This was a special visit conceptualised in the "Platinum Jubilee" year of Salwan Education Trust.
The visit to Kargil was aimed at bringing the students close to the Indian army and giving them the rare opportunity to live the challenging yet inspiring lives of the Indian soldiers.
The expedition started on 21st July, in the morning at 5o’clock when they took their flight for Leh airport.
On reaching Leh, they were made to acclimatize for one day. On the following day the group visited the "Thiskey Monastery". The visit brought the students close to the teachings of Buddha and the reality of life.
Next were the visits to 'Hall of Fame' museum ' Druk Padma school' [Rancho's school of ‘3 Idiots’ fame.] 'Panangso lake' 'DRDO ‘Defence Research & Development Organization’ lab' 'Pathar sahib gurudwara' and ‘Post 49'. These visits were very exciting and the breathtaking scenic beauty of the surrounding areas left the students speechless.
The student also went to Drass to attend the Kargil Vijay Diwas and participated in the memorial service. This visit to Kargil ended with a group performance by the students in honour of the jawans of the Indian army at the 18 Maratha li brigade. This expedition will always be remembered forever for breaking the barriers of fear, learning time management and leadership.
The visit to Kargil entirely transformed the vision of the students towards life.
Outcomes: The students learned:
1. Leadership and time management.
2. Fearlessness and facing each and every challenge of life in a positive manner.
3. Love for the nation and the respect for the sacrifice of the Indian Army.
4. Teamwork, discipline and controlled behaviour.

INTER HOUSE CRICKET MATCH


Inter-house Cricket Match was organized for the students of classed IV and V on July 20, 2016 in the school grounds. Class 5 team opted to bat by winning the toss.
 The team of Class 5 scored 49 runs in 10 overs. Class 4 lost 4 wickets quickly, but managed to play with enthusiasm. Their bowling part was appreciable.

INTER- HOUSE DEBATE COMPETITION


Date:16th July, 2016
Topic: ‘Odd Even Formula’ - Boon or Bane

 

An Inter-House Debate Competition was held at GDSPS on the topic ‘Odd Even Formula’ - Boon or Bane to provide a platform to students to put forth their views and justify their opinions.  The students of Class IV and V competed to bring laurels to their houses.
The students used various skills like overstatement, definition, irony etc. to convince the audience. All the four teams exhibited great oratorical skills but finally the best debaters were declared the winners. Yogita of Agni House won the First position, followed by Saksham Arora of Avni House with the Second position. Azaan Quershi won the Consolation prize.

JULY ACTIVITIES (KG)


Collage making – Rainy Season
A Collage Making Activity for students was conducted on Friday, 08 July, 2016 wherein the students collected pictures of various things used during the rainy season and prepared a collage of the same which was later displayed in the classroom. The activity helped to develop among the students – research skills, the ability to gather information and update information level.

 

 

 

Body Safety Awareness Programme
The Body Safety Awareness Programme was conducted on Wednesday, 13 July, 2016. It aimed at creating awareness among students about good touch/bad touch and to teach them what steps to take if they are in an unsafe situation. The interactive programme also dwelled on the urgent need to empower young children and to enable them to report an abuse, and encourage them to confide their problems in parents and teachers.

 


Lemon and Spoon race
A race of balance and co-ordination, the Lemon and Spoon Race was held for the students on Thursday, 14 July, 2016. The students started the race by placing the lemon onto their spoons and ran the distance between the start and finish line. It taught the students balancing, values of honesty and co-ordination.

 

 

 

Exhibition: World of expression
An exhibition of the Summer Vacation Holiday Activities was organized on Saturday, 23 July, 2016 in the school premises. All the projects were exhibited for the parents to view at the Exhibition: World of expression. The parents were delighted to see the handiwork of the students. The exhibition was a successful endeavour that invited overwhelming response from each and every one.

 


Tangy Mango Masti Week 18 to 22 July, 2016
GDSPS organized “Tangy Mango Masti Week” - a week with fun-filled activities for students. A host of fun, creative classroom activities were carried out during the week.


Poem Recitation – was held for the students on Monday, 18.07.2016, in which they used attractive props to present their rhymes. The teacher also briefed and discussed about the importance of the fruit and its different types.

 

 


Ice-cream funday – activity was held on Tuesday, 19 July, 2016. The mangoes were cut, the students smelled and tasted and later on Mango Ice Cream was prepared and served in class, which they relished.

 

 


Cotton dabbing in mango (headgear) – Students enjoyed the activity of the cut-out of mango in which they did cotton dabbing. It was held on Wednesday, 20 July, 2016. Mango head gears were made with these cut-outs. It was wonderful to see the students wearing their self-made mango crowns.


Mango race – was held for the students on Thursday, 21 July, 2016 in which they participated with their Mango crowns. Students excitedly ran the races with all the fun that came along.

 

 


Presentation on different types of mango - The students were shown a PowerPoint presentation making them aware about the various facets of the king of fruits. mango on Friday, 22, July 2016. They were also informed about different varieties of mangoes available in the market.
