MEDICAL CHECK UP BY DENTAL CLOVE

G D Salwan Public School organised Dental Ccheck-up of students from       classes IV to XI, conducted by Clove Dental on 30/01/2015 and 31/01/2015. The team included 6 doctors (4 General Physicans, 1 Pedodontist and 1 orthodontist) and 2 technicians for sterilizing the instruments.
The doctors checked the oral hygiene of each student. The students were told about their specific findings (cavities, decay, calculus, plaque etc). They were also given advice (if required). They were told about the importance of oral hygiene in their daily life. The students were advised to brush their teeth twice a  day. The students were advised to visit their dentist and have their dental checkup done every 6 months. Free consultation for parents was also given. They were also told about the nearest clinic where they could have their revisit.

REPORT OF WORKSHOP ON ADULT EDUCATION

The workshop was organized for boys of classes IX, X & XI by        Dr. Shikha Mahajan (Consultant Pediatrician & Adolescent Specialist) from BLK Hospital.
The objective of the workshop was to discuss the phases of changes in ones period of adolescence i.e. early adolescence (10-13 years), middle adolescence (14- 16years) and late adolescence (17 – 19 years). She gave a detailed explanation on physical growth, physical changes, psychological development, social changes, risk taking behavior, adolescent sexuality, sex education, sex issues and sexual abuse.
The students were involved thoroughly through detailed discussions and resolution of several queries. The session was very interactive and knowledgeable and provided ample information to raise and identify oneself.

SECOND CLUSTER WORKSHOP OF PROJECT SEARCH

Students of Class X attended Second Cluster Workshop of Project Search on 28th January, 2015 at DPS, Vasant Kunj. The project coordinator, Ms. Ragini Kumar apprised the participants about the kind of innovative methods schools can adopt for increasing the collection numbers of Tetra packs in their school.
She informed them that today’s need is of Social Entrepreneurship, which can act like change agents by giving innovative solutions for society’s most pressing problems. Based on this theory an inspiring movie on the life of two school boys from a very humble background in Sikkim was shown. They were also told about a school which uses its recyclable material and sells it during various school occasions. The methods adopted by the school were discussed.
It was indeed an interactive session where students were asked various questions about the SEARCH project they are doing in their schools and how well it is doing.

SPECIAL ASSEMBLY ON REPUBLIC DAY


To mark the occasion of Republic Day, a special assembly was conducted with great enthusiasm and patriotic fervour on 23th of January, 2015. The assembly commenced with a prayer, followed by a talk on Patriotism. Students shared ideas expressing their views on the importance of Republic Day. The English Patriotic Song Competition was held and the winning class was the students of class XI-B. The class sang their melodious patriotic song and won applauds. The programme concluded with a mesmerizing dance performance by the young Salwanians.

INTER-CLASS ENGLISH PATRIOTIC SONG COMPETITION


An English patriotic Song  Competition for classes VI-XI was held on 23RD January 2015 marking the beginning of the continued celebrations of the Republic Day. Each class picked up the best patriotic song in English and performed it with great enthusiasm in their classes. Result :

GDSPOSA Alumni Meet 2015


G.D. Salwan Public School launched the G.D. Salwan Public Old Students Association (GDSPOSA) as part of the Silver Jubilee Celebrations of the school on 17th January 2015 . Over 125 alumni of GDSPS came together to their alma mater for the first Alumni Meet 2015. It was attended by alumni working at esteemed positions. Present on the occasion was Mr. Tarun Rajpal the school’s Management Committee member and its alumnus. The programme commenced with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp by the oldest group of students followed by the school prayer. There were cultural performances including dance and music by the current students of the school. The young students mesmerized the gathering with a spectacular dance performance. The teachers expressed their love and warmth for their students by presenting a song which reminded the alumni of their own school days. They enjoyed the song and cheered their teachers by clapping on the beats of the song. Some of the former students shared their success stories.
An election was held to form the Alumni Committee. The contestants introduced themselves to the gathering and informed them about their plans to strengthen GDSPOSA.

The school Principal, Ms. Vijay Laxmi Singh moved the Vote of Thanks and expressed her pleasure to see the former students of the school doing well in their careers.  She also apprised the alumni of the progress, changes and extensions in the domain of academic disciplines, co-curricular and extra-curricular, etc.  She also took this opportunity to invite all the alumni of the school for the grand celebration of the school’s Silver Jubilee Celebrations to be held in April, 2015. She added that an alumni meet will be planned every year.


The alumni members expressed their wholehearted gratitude to the Management, Principal and staff of the school.  The students shared lighter moments with each other and remembered the values the teachers had imbibed in them. The evening turned out to be a joyous homecoming for the GD Salwanians to cheer, cherish and celebrate.

International Craft Exhibition


G.D. Salwan Public School organised a Pottery Exhibition as part of ISA Activities. A workshop on Pottery was held for the students of classes V to VIII to make the students understand the nuances of the art. They learnt the international art of making pottery indigenous to countries like Africa, China and Japan. The resource person of the workshop was a renowned ceramic artist Mr. Laxmi Narayan. The students created beautiful pots and decorated them, showing their artistic skills. The work of the students was displayed in the Exhibition ‘International Craft’ which was inaugurated by Mr. Arup K. Biswas, eminent artist and Senior faculty, Salwan Public School, Rajinder Nagar. Mr. Biswas lauded the efforts of the students and congratulated the staff and parents for inculcating such talent in the students. The parents appreciated the school’s endeavour in teaching the students the international art and craft. The school principal, Ms. Vijay Laxmi Singh, thanked the parents for motivating their children, who exhibited their finest skills of art in the Exhibition.

January Activities (KG)


Lohri Celebration
The Lohri Festival was celebrated with a lot of exuberance and enthusiasm by the students of GD Salwan Montessori School on Tuesday, 13 January 2015. Teachers apprised them about the significance of the day, which ushers in the cheerful spring season bidding adieu to the dull winter. They were also told about the various aspects of India and its cultural heritage. The children had a gala time as they danced around the holy bonfire, the prayers were performed and groundnuts, rewari and sweets were distributed among the tiny-tots. The mood on the campus was upbeat and the students were totally absorbed in the festive spirit of Lohri.

 

 

Special Assembly: Republic Day
GD Salwan Public School held Republic Day celebrations with a great deal of patriotic zeal and fervor. On Friday, 23 January 2015, class Nursery C presented a special assembly on Republic Day. Students presented a skit depicted on the occasion. They were dressed up in costumes of various states of India. A feeling of patriotism was also maintained as students sang beautifully “I salute my flag, it makes me proud”. The little ones also presented mesmerising dance. It was a morning of extraordinary display of enthusiasm and confidence by our little ones.

 

 

Traditional Dress Show
The students took pride in glorifying and celebrating the spirit of unity. To mark the importance of Republic Day, a grand celebration was held in the school. The school echoed with patriotic fervour as the children came dressed up in traditional clothes of various states. The teachers explained them about India’s culture, variety of food items, dances and languages. Students sang patriotic songs and made and wore tri-colour badges to mark the occasion.

 

 

PEC Activity
In order to teach young children the proper techniques of rolling a ball, the PEC Activity of the month was conducted. After several rolling attempts, the students were encouraged to roll ball towards specified targets, and practice knocking things over, hitting pictures, etc. Students also used their feet to roll rather than their hands.

 

 

Inter-Class Group Song Competition
An Inter-Class English Group Song Competition was held for Class KG on Friday, 30 January 2015. The students sang melodious songs with incredible confidence and zest. The judge greatly appreciated the talent and the effort of the students. It was a treat to hear the students singing songs with actions and voice modulation. Class KG-B was declared the winner of the competition.
