Make Poverty History – NineIsMine Campaign

Gurpreet Singh of Class X participated in the musical display “Stomp”, organized by NGO-NineIsMine on 5th February, 2014 at India Habitat Centre. The main theme of the event was “ Make Poverty History”, to focus on the rights of children – Right to Education, Right to Speak, Right to Health and so on. It was presented in a creative way by playing music from unconventional instruments like keys, plastic glasses etc. Students from various schools grouped together to present their manifesto before Ms. Amina Mohammed, special advisor to UN Secretary General. 






Youth Parliament

As part of the monthly activities, the school organized a Youth Parliament activity on the theme ‘Winning of Aam Aadmi Party’ on 7th February, 2014. The students of class X participated in a Question-Hour Session under the Parliament where students were divided into two teams portraying Ruling and Opposition party along with a speaker.  The ruling party portrayed Hon’ble ‘Chief Minister Mr. Arvind Kejriwal and his core team with their agendas and their work in a span of one month.  Sourabh Gupta of X A enacted as Sh. Arvind Kejriwal, Sakshi Lahori of X A enacted as Ms. Rakhi Birla.  On the other hand, the opposition party grilled Mr. Kejriwal and his team about the work done by them. At the end of the session the platform was open for audience to put up any questions where the students asked few questions. Principal Ma’am Ms. Vijay Laxmi Singh also participated in the Youth Parliament by asking questions. The activity was very fruitful as the students gained insight into the working of the Parliament.





British Council-Education UK Exhibition

Students of Class XI visited the UK Exhibition, on the study options at the various universities in U.K., organized by the British Council on the 8th of February 2014 at Hotel Shangri-La, New Delhi. UK offers world-class education to students, the chance to follow their passion for learning and gain qualifications that are recognised by employers and academics worldwide.
Students got a chance to speak to representatives from 45 UK Institutions at their respective stalls and gained information on their course of interest. Some of the favourite courses amongst the students were B.Sc. Accounting and Finance, B.Sc. Economics, B.Sc. Business Studies, B.A. Business Management and B.A. Hospitality and Tourism Management. The criterion for admission to most of the courses was between 60-70% in class 12th along with 6 bands in IELTS. Majority of the universities provide assistance in summer internships and placements after the students finish with the course. Brochures, Course guides and pamphlets were collected to gain detailed knowledge on course structures, Admission criteria, Fee structure and other important details. It was an informative visit for the students.





GDSPS bags INDY’s Best Award for Heritage Studies’ Project

G. D. Salwan Public was a proud Recipient of the INDY’S BEST AWARD at the National Level in the Education category for introducing Innovative  Teaching Practices on Heritage  in the school. The award function was held at Taj Land End’s Hotel  on 14th Feb 2014, attended by approximately  500 guests, 100 of India’s most outstanding professionals. The school received a Trophy and a Certificate under this category. An independent jury comprising of eminent skill professionals and heads of organizations evaluated the award entries.

The school followed the method of learning by doing for this innovative teaching practice. Students were made to understand the processes of economic and social change and development with examples from modern and contemporary India. It also helped students to enhance their analytical and conceptual skills through this innovative teaching pedagogy called Heritage Studies : An Integrated Transforming Pedagogy where in the school adopted the neighbourhood monument as per the CBSE guidelines.

The criteria for the award was based on how well the entire educational experience had  been  meaningfully organized in the school and also ensure that the educational purpose is  indeed being accomplished. The Best Practices Award was bestowed on as to how the school mobilized students through Heritage awareness programmes, including the field campaign to the adopted monument. This recognition marks the uniqueness of the school’s best practices, intensity of challenges addressed, execution model, ease of adoption and use, reach and accessibility, impact and scope for scale and sustainability.

The award has added another feather in the cap of G.D. Salwan Public School through the work done by the students and staff in reviving the abandoned monument ‘Bhuli Bhatiyari Ka Mahal’






G.D. Salwan Public School bid adieu to the outgoing batch of Class XII in the Farewell Party held on 18th February, 2014. Students of Class XI organized a grand and gala show. The function commenced with a prayer to invoke the blessings of the Almighty, followed by the Candle-Lighting Ceremony. The Principal, Ms. Vijay Laxmi Singh, passed on the ‘light’ of wisdom to all the students of class XII. The school choir wished the outgoing students best of luck through their farewell song. The Principal, in her address, took the opportunity to guide the Class XII students to inculcate strong desires and dreams and to fulfill them by being more disciplined, focused and dedicated towards their goal in life. The students were given apt titles and souvenirs amidst cheering and exuberance. The outgoing Head Boy Bhavya Popli and Head Girl Gurbani Chhabra also conveyed their feelings through their speech. Akshay Saxena and Gurbani Chhabra were adjudged Master and Miss G.D. Salwan respectively. Entire ambience was filled with the sentiments of separation, thrill and enjoyment. The whole campus gave a glimpse of rainbow depicting the various costumes of students in different colors.
A special cultural programme was organized by class XI students where they presented foot tapping dances and songs. The Vote of thanks was moved by the Head boy and the Head Girl from Class XI. Class XI students danced on a medley of songs and enthralled the audience. Later, the students were treated to sumptuous dinner. Students danced happily and gracefully to their favourite numbers. The function concluded with the blessings by the Principal and the teachers.








English Song Competition
An Inter-Class English Song Competition was organised for Class KG on Friday, 14th February, 2014. The students sang melodious English songs with incredible confidence and zest. The judges greatly appreciated the talent and effort of the children. Class KG-B was declared the winner of the competition.   

Show And Tell Activity: MY PARENTS
Show and Tell Activity for Class KG was organized on Wednesday, 19th February, 2014. The theme of the activity was ‘My Parents’. Students brought pictures of their family members and spoke about them describing their feeling for them. The activity helped the students to gain confidence, improve vocabulary and improve their oral skills.

English Calligraphy Competition
All students from KG class participated enthusiastically in the competition held on Tuesday, 25th February, 2014. They were judged on the basis of presentation, word formation and neatness. The little ones put in their best and wrote in a very neat handwriting. This activity actually helped the students realize the importance of a good handwriting.

Hindi Calligraphy Competition
Handwriting is the mirror to the personality of a person. A neat and beautiful handwriting always seeks the attention of others. To develop awareness and love for good handwriting and also to test the handwriting of the students, an Interclass Hindi Calligraphy Competition was conducted on Tuesday, 25th February, 2014 for class KG. All the students participated enthusiastically in the event.
The entries were judged on the basis of letter formation, word formation, neatness and overall presentation. The best three entries from each section were given the prizes.
