An Inter- House Power Point Presentation Competition for Classes IX- XI was organized on 30th August, 2016 in the Multipurpose Hall. The theme for the same was ‘Be a Buddy Not a Bully ’.
Aims:    To teach the students life skills like empathy and interpersonal relationship
To encourage them for effective communication
Learning Outcomes:       To learn values like giving respect and getting respect
To analyse the data and present it confidently and with conviction.

Interface with Parents (2016-17)


Date: 30th and 31st August, 2016
Classes: I - V


The school organised an ‘Interface with Parents’ on 30th and 31st August, 2016 for classes I to V, with an aim to get the parents involved in their child’s education. Parents got a feel of how the children spend their day in school while children got new insights from parents coming from diverse backgrounds. Parents were also encouraged to use teaching aids and make presentations in order to instill interest in the children and make the class more interactive.
The parents showed enthusiasm for the interface. Ms.Priti Mehta ,  Mrs.Prerna Bhakt ,  Mrs. Neha Puri, Mr.Sanjeev Arya,Mrs.Prerna Bhakt , Ms.Pinky Diwan , Ms.Chandra Shekhar, Mrs. Vinambra Ghatge, Dr.Rajedra Singh , Mrs. Manju Chandna were invited to teach subjects according to their interest and expertise.  The parents used PPTs to make the class more interesting and to gain more involvement of students in the subject. It was a treat to see the enthusiasm of the parents in Dance class, computer, Art and sports class. Mr.Saurabh Verma tool up a session in communication skills through PPT, which was very innovative and interactive.
This interface helped in creating a stronger bond between parents and teachers.

SYMPOSIUM FOR COUNSELLORS

Topic: Nurturing the 21st century learners – Creating Global Leaders of tomorrow
Organised by: International Centre for Advancement of Education (ICAE)

A symposium for counsellors on the topic ‘Nurturing the 21st century learners – Creating Global Leaders of tomorrow’ was organised by International Centre for Advancement of Education (ICAE). The objective of the symposium was to equip the counsellors and educators to imbibe a tough competitive tendency so that they could be driven to success in life. The event commenced with a welcome address by Ms. Astha Ahluwalia, Consultant Psychologist and Training & Academic Head, ICAE. The sessions were introduced by the sponsors. The first was taken up by Mr. Bob Athwal from Leicester University - Director of Student Experience, who focussed upon the promotion of his university and gave us a glimpse of the courses it provide. It was followed by introduction to fashion designing courses offered by Instituto Marangouni and was conducted by Mr. Raul D. Souza from, Indian Subcontinent and Gulf Area Manager of the university.

Mr. Vjiay K. Thadani, Vice Chairman & Managing Director from NIIT Limited, in his session, focussed on the Engineering courses offered by them.

There were three eminent speakers at the symposium. Dr. Aroona Broota, Clinical Psychologist and Retired Professor, Department of Psychology, Delhi University, apprised the eminent gathering on the topic ‘Staying a Stepping Stone for Leadership : Fostering Acceptance & Empathy Among Students’. The second session was taken up by Ms. Chetna Sabharwal Counsellor on the topic ‘Discover Your Fit:The Global Scope of Career Counselling and Life Planning ‘,  wherein she introduced the misconceptions about school counsellors/ counselling. The third session was by Ms. Jyotsna  Bharadwaj Consultant Psychologist, Life Skills Trainer and Career Counsellor, who discussed about fostering global citizens. This could be achieved by innovative practices for the promotion of happiness in schools.

INTACH India Heritage Quiz 2016

INTACH India Heritage Quiz 2016 Delhi organized an Inter School Quiz India which focused on Indian Culture and Heritage. The quiz was conducted by Xpress Minds Entertainment.  
The quiz began with a general introduction to Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage (INTACH) and its contribution and support towards protection of India’s diverse heritage by Ms. Purnima Datt, Principal Director, Heritage Education and Communication Service at INTACH. A movie was shown on the workings of the HECS Division called the Helping Hands. The Quiz masters for the quiz were Mr. Kunal Savarkar and Ms. Seema Chari of XpressMinds Edutainment. They also released their book, ‘IndiQa: INTACH India Heritage Quiz Book’ in collaboration with Collins India.
The INTACH quiz was a good opportunity to give the participants an understanding about the heritage related quizzes.

PAPER PRESENTATION ON BREXIT


  Date:Friday, 26th August, 2016 Venue: SPS Gurgaon Attended by Ms. Rekha Navani with seven students of Class XI The students participated in Paper Presentation on Brexit. They had researched on the effect of BREXIT. It was presented in the form of a newspaper which was named as “ The Harbinger.” Two students, Ambika Anand and Hitesh Chopra, made a presentation on the effect of BREXIT on the employment of people in Britain. Daniyal Quereshi and Lokesh Bhati presented the same topic as Nay-Sayers. It was a learning experience for the students. Learning Outcome: There was a clarity on the concept of BREXIT , its effect on India and also on the other countries of European Union, among the students. Such activities develop oratory skills among the students and also enhance their confidence.

JANAMASHTAMI CELEBRATIONS

Janamashtami was celebrated with great enthusiasm on 24th August by the students of Nursery to VIII. The parents of the participants were invited to attend the joyful event. Ms. Jaswinder, GDSMS Coordinator highlighted the achievement and activities of the Montessori Wing of the school. The programme commenced with a prayer by the school choir dedicated to Lord Krishna, followed by a devotional song sung by Pranya of Class Nursery B. Parkhi and Shrutanshu from Class Nursery spoke on the importance of Janamashtami. The students of the kindergarten presented a beautiful dance performance on a medley of songs.
The students of classes VII and VIII created an atmosphere of Brij Bhoomi with little Krishna through their mesmerizing dance performance.
The vote of thanks was moved by Ms. Bhawna Seha and Ms. Pooja Rana mothers of Parkhi Seha and Pranya Rana respectively.
Principal, Ms. Mukul Jha thanked all the parents for their cooperation in encouraging their children to participate. She also appreciated the students for their wonderful performance.

RACE FOR UNITY


To inculcate the value of patriotism and to pay tribute to our freedom fighters, the Race for Unity was organised on 23rd August 2016 as part of the Independence Day Celebrations at GDSPS. A large number of students from classes I to V participated in the race with great energy and enthusiasm. All teachers lent their presence to the cause by helping in the run. Students were dressed up like the freedom fighters and carried banners and placards with slogans on national unity.
The activity served as an ideal way of making students aware of the importance of unity and integrity for our nation’s growth and development.

CAREER AWARENESS WORKSHOP

School had organized an interactive session on 22/08/2016 for parents and students with One Step professional team to give them the advantage of making the right and informed choice for the successful careers.
One Step Up is an organization for Career Counselling which carries out various counselling sessions for the students and ensures a highly interactive program, built on the foundation of making informed choices.
The team works with students to engage them in the process of studying a career to understand how it would appeal to them from the varying perspectives of interests, subject choices, academic interests and individual traits.

Group sessions were given for all the classes on Career Awareness The session was very informative and interesting.

QMUN AT G.D. SALWAN PUBLIC SCHOOL

It was a proud moment for G.D. Salwan Public School to host Quintessence Model United Nation (QMUN) Conference on 20th and 21st August. More than 200 delegates from leading schools and colleges of Delhi participated in this event.

This was a golden opportunity for the G.D. Salwanians to participate in this MUN Conference which gave them a platform to understand and analyze the global issues.


There were five committees both formal and informal were stimulated with themes as mentioned against each– United Nations General Committee (UNGA) for ‘Reviewing United Nations Global Counter Terrorism Strategy’, United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) dealt with ‘Protection of rights of civilians in areas of armed conflict’, United Nations Security Council took up the issue of ‘Situation in Middle East with special emphasis in Syria’, Union Of European Football Association to talk about ‘Establishment of the European Super League’ and Harry Potter Committee (Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix)
The delegates from G.D. Salwan, Ambika Anand and Daniyal Qureshi participated in United Nations General Assembly and Harry Potter Committee respectively.
The delegates of various committees expressed their country’s view regarding the issues raised in the respective committees. Winners of various events bagged exciting prizes and commendation certificates

CREATIVITY & INNOVATION AND ENTREPRENEURSHIP WORKSHOP

EdgeMakers are a new generation of students who want to direct their entrepreneurial talents to make a difference in the world.
This workshop was about Creativity and Innovation for the classes VI-VIII and Entrepreneurship for the class XI.
It was an interactive session. The resource person asked the questions and discussed the key elements. Each lesson employs different creative media such as videos, storytelling, theatre, art, music, and writing.
This enables the students to develop their creative voices and to apply their new found skills to purposeful activity.
The students are also introduced to a toolbox of techniques like Brainstorming, Ideation, Visualization, Cool-hunting..
Students come to the subject of creativity with all kinds of preconceptions.

The workshop on Entrepreneurship course guided student passion and entrepreneurial spirit by understanding entrepreneurs, their ideas, and their skill sets.
Students will develop their own new venture for profit or social change through the lean start up model.
This will culminate into a presentation at a student-run exhibition with the Quick Pitch Event and a plan for the next steps for success.

Overall the demo session of the program was interesting as students made to think out of the box. The workshop helped the students in developing their creative and innovative skills.

INDEPENDENCE DAY CELEBRATION

Report

Independence Day was celebrated in Gyan Devi Salwan Public School to mark the 70th year of freedom from the British rule. On this patriotic occasion students showcased a colourful spectacle of India’s vision through their performance.

The programme commenced with The Hindi Prayer ‘Vande Matram’ followed by the English Prayer ‘Let there be love shared among us…..’

This was followed by a musical rendition by Hindi and English choir students. The participants spell bound the audience with their performance and also energized them with patriotic fervor.

The self- composed patriotic poem recited by the Neha Bhargava on their Kargil visit and the performance by the ventriloquist left the audience awe struck.

The highlight of the programme was the foot tapping dance performance on ‘Ye desh hai veer jawanon ka…….’ followed by Khukri Dance of Gorkha Regiment.

The principal in her message inspired children to cherish the Independence earned by our freedom fighters at the cost of their lives. She also said that we should be filled with gratitude that we are born in free India.

The National Anthem on flute by Vinayak Sarwan gave everyon goose bumps and tears in their eyes.

VISIT BY FOREIGN DELEGATES

A group of delegates from Ghana, South Africa, visited the vicinity of Salwan schools at old Rajendra Nagar on 4th August, 2016, Thursday.
A plethora of activities was going on in Gyan Devi Salwan Public School for the upcoming Independence Day Celebration. On the main stage the practice of foot tapping dance on ‘Ye desh hai veer jawanon ka.....’ was going on. Simultaneously the practice of nukkad natak was taking place in the amphitheatre. Patriotic song rehearsal was being done in the music room. They watched, enjoyed and appreciated all of them.  
After enjoying the cultural activities they took a round of the classrooms to see the academic happenings. They interacted with students. They also viewed the science and computer labs and liked the set up.

They were full of praise for the maximum utilization of the infrastructure and the holistic development being focussed upon in the school

INTER HOUSE BADMINTON MATCH (PRIMARY WING)


Date: 1st August 2016
Venue: Salwan School Ground

 

To nurture the quality of sportsmanship and inculcate the importance of physical activities, Inter-House Badminton match was held at Gyan Devi Salwan Public School grounds on 1st August 2016. The students were selected on the basis of their performance. It was held in two phases - Semi Final and Final. Teams were divided in five groups (one team per house i.e. - Agni, Avni, Achal, Amber and Amrit) comprising the students of classes IV and V. The final match was held between Amber and Avni. Amber House won by 2/0, Score - 21-9, 21-12. The team of Anvi House was declared the Runners-up and the third position was bagged by Achal House.
