An Inter- House Nukkad Natak Competition was organized on 30th April, 2016 in the school’s Amphitheatre. The theme for the same was ‘Chiria Dhoondh Rahi Woh Ped Manav jise raha hai Chhedh  ’.
A team of 12 students from Classes VI- VIII from each house participated in the competition.

Aims:    To improve the students’ understanding of concept
To motivate their creativity and build the level of confidence in them
Learning Outcomes:       to make the students understand the concept very well
to enact the theme appropriately

INTER HOUSE MONO ACTING COMPETITION


TOPIC:  Mono Acting (Conversation with God – related to environment)

Inter House Mono Acting Competition was organized for the students of class IV to V. The participants presented were dressed up according to their respective characters. They made a meaningful impact on the audience through their inspirational presentations. The criteria for the judgment of the competition were closeness to actual delivery, voice modulation, confidence and resemblance to character. The students performed with confidence and grit to deliver the character they represented.
The First Position was bagged by Kavya of Ambar House, followed by Sara Aggarwal of Achal House and Third Prize was bagged by Soumita Palmar of Agni House.

BIDDING ADIEU


G.D. Salwan Public School bid adieu to the batch of Class XII 2015-16 in the Farewell Party held on 28th April, 2016. Students of Class XII 2016-17 batch organized a grand and gala show.
Hon’ble Chairman GDSPS (Retd) Major General Mahender Singh Ghai, VSM, along with his wife Ms. Gurdarshan Kaur, graced the occasion with their benign presence.
The students were welcomed by showering petals on them. They shared beautiful moments with friends and teachers enjoying the sumptuous lunch. A special movie with a collection of memories of the batch 2015-16, especially prepared for his friends by Vaibhav Arora, was showcased amidst cheers and applauds. The function commenced with a prayer to invoke the blessings of the Almighty, which was followed by a welcome song. Hon’ble Chairman addressed the students and conveyed his best wishes for their brighter future. The Principal, Ms. Mukul Jha, showered her blessings on the students in her address wishing them all the best for their future endeavours. The school choir enthralled the audience with a medley of songs. The outgoing Head Boy Tushar Bhardwaj shared his successful journey of 14 years and thanked the school for the efforts in transforming his personality. The class-teachers of the batch 2016-17, in their address, wished the students to rise and shine in all areas of life.
The students were given apt titles amidst cheering and exuberance. A special cultural programme was organized by class XII students where they presented foot tapping dances and songs. A humourous skit was presented by class XII depicting a classroom with naughty students, which made the environment more lively. The students depicted their love and regard for their seniors by dedicating a movie containing memories of the seniors’ school life, which was highly appreciated by the students of Class of 2015-16.
Sourabh Gupta and Vani Garg were adjudged Master and Miss G.D. SPS respectively. Entire ambience was filled with the sentiments of separation, thrill and enjoyment. The whole campus gave a glimpse of rainbow depicting the various costumes of students in different colours.
The vote of thanks was moved by the outgoing Head Girl Sakshi Lahori. Students danced happily and gracefully to their favourite numbers. The function concluded with the blessings by the Principal and teachers.

 Workshop on Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation (CCE)

A two day CBSE Capacity Building Programme was held at Salwan Public School, Rajendra Nagar.
Day 1:
Dr. (Mrs.) Indu Khetarpal, Principal, SPS Rajendra Nagar apprised the participants with the meaning, features and concept of CCE. She also emphasized on the essentials of CCE in the education system. She focused on:

Mr Jagdeep Singh More explained the meaning, features, tools and techniques of Formative Assessment. He emphasized that learning without feedback is like learning archery in a darkened room. Various FA activities subject wise were discussed. He enlightened the teachers about the Interdisciplinary Projects.

Ms Homi Astavans explained the meaning and features of Summative Assessment. Revised Bloom’s Taxonomy was also discussed. The teachers were made to analyze the question paper, understand the typology and the design of the question paper.

Day 2:
Mr Jagdeep Singh More focused on Assessing Co-scholastic Areas. Descriptors to assess were discussed and interacted. Identifying and dealing with bullying, connection with values, inculcating values in students was emphasized upon.

Mr Prince Teotia explained the Recording and Documentation of the FA’s and SA’s.

Ms. Vijay Laxmi Singh dealt with the issue of Gender Sensitivity and emphasized on becoming a gender sensitive teacher.

Open House at IIT Delhi

GDSPS had been invited to attend an OPEN HOUSE 2016 at IIT DELHI, IIT campus, 23 April, 2016. A team of 21 students alongwith Ms. Neha Kaushal and Mr. Ganesh Chandra visited the open house. This provided an opportunity to the students to explore and learn about the courses available at IIT. The students also got the opportunity to visit their labs and were shown some of the practical and projects demonstrations by IIT students. It was a great learning experience for the students.

SALWAN EDUCATION TRUST PLATINUM JUBILEE - MAHAYAGYA


Date: 22nd April, 2016
Venue: Salwan School Grounds

 

The Platinum Jubilee Celebrations of Salwan Education Trust commenced with a Mahayagya on 22nd April, 2016 to invoke the blessings of the Almighty for a peaceful, prosperous and happy world.

In order to involve the students in the event and make them understand the true essence and significance of the holy ritual, information about the same was uploaded on the smart boards of the school in the form of a power point presentation. The students were oriented regarding the same by the Sanskrit Teacher.

The name of the Mahayagya was ‘Sagrahamak Rudratmak Mahayagya’ dedicated to Lord Shiva. The event was marked with twelve beautifully decorated Hawan Kunds with eleven of them representing eleven Salwan Schools in Delhi and NCR and one in the centre which represented the Salwan Education Trust. Reverend Acharyas of Uttarkashi were invited to perform the rituals. The ceremony was attended by more than 5000 students and teachers from various branches of Salwan schools and guests.

This was followed by the school song- ‘Lab pe aati hai dua’ and the prayer ‘Pitu matu sahayak swami Sakha’ by the students of the choir group.

Sh. Harpal Sing, Hon’ble Trustee, Salwan Education Trust, addressed the august gathering with his inspirational words. The great event concluded with the vote of thanks by Hon’ble Chairman, Salwan Education Trust Sh. Sushil Dutt Salwan and two students. The ceremony concluded with the National Anthem.

The prasad was distributed to all students. The guests were served with Preeti Bhoj,  served with great sanctity.

VISIT TO HUMAYUN’S TOMB ON WORLD’S HERITAGE DAY

Heritage Day is celebrated on 18th April to express our concern towards preservation of the ancient heritage. On this occasion, the students of Dharohar Club paid a visit to the Humayun’s Tomb. The objective of this programme was to make the students aware of the need to protect the monuments and feel connected with the heritage. The NGO Aga Khan Trust for Culture (AKTC) conducted the walk for various Heritage activities for students. The walk in the area was guided by local people of Nizamuddin Basti and the conservation experts, who explained the craft techniques used traditionally in restoration process. The students also participated in exciting activities such as sandstone painting, sanjhi paper-cutting, architectural paper model making and creative writing  along with heritage walk of the Humayun’s Tomb.

UNION BUDGET 2016-17

A presentation on the union budget 2016-17 was being given by the students of class 12. They discussed about the meaning of budget ,sources of revenue of the government and on which sectors government planned to spend these resources . The discussion was also about the process of budget i.e how the budget formulates and presented in the parliament. The students also presented the proposals of this year’s budget along with the analysis of these proposals. The interesting feature of the presentation was the effect of this budget on different section of the society ,wherein the students came featuring as labor ,student, housewife , farmer, investor, entrepreneur etc.  our guest also gave an insight view on the basic meaning of budget which we can connect through our daily lives and asked students to prepare school’s budget .

April Activities (KG)

 

Welcome Carnival
The start of a new academic session is a milestone that is often anticipated with great excitement and joy.
On Friday, 01.04.2016 the students were welcome into their new classroom by the Nursery teachers. After settling down, they enjoyed a Magic Show in the Multi-purpose Hall.
The activities were planned in such a manner that led students towards feeling confident, connected to each other, and feeling that they are a valued member of our school community right from the very first day.

 

Orientation Day 2016
An Orientation Programme was organized on Saturday, 02.04.2016 for the Parents of Class KG to make their child's transition from preschool (Nursery) to Pre-Primary (KG) as smooth and easy as possible.
The Orientation Programme commenced with a prayer by the Music teachers. The Class Teachers welcomed the new parents and briefed them about the school and the importance of good parenting and teaching. The presentation by the Class Teachers provided the parents with an insight into the school curriculum, the syllabus for the entire session, teaching methodologies and general instructions.
This was followed by a presentation by Ms. Kriti Arora who informed parents about multiple intelligences and its importance in a child’s life. She also informed parents about the MI Activity Room in school wherein a child can explore his/her interests. Ms. Maheshwari Balan, the School Counsellor, informed the parents about the various problems faced by parents with children in day-to-day life and how to deal with the same. Dr. Simpy Jindal, a dentist from Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, apprised parents about the dental problems in early age and steps to ensure healthy gums and teeth.

 

Campaign: Hug a Tree
Tree hugging comes naturally to kids. Just get them outdoors.
Kids need lots of positive interactions with nature to develop their connection to it, for their own joy and development. To celebrate Earth Day 2016, the students of Classes Nursery and KG engaged their inner tree-hugger and gave a tree a hug on Hug a Tree Day at school on Thursday, 21.04.2016.

 

Show & Tell Activity: My Family
Show and Tell activity helps the students to organize information and builds their confidence. The activity also provides opportunities for both fun and learning. The Show and Tell activity for the month of April was conducted on Friday, 29.04.2016 wherein the students prepared a few lines on the topic – My Family. A family is a source of love and security for a young child. Students enjoyed talking about their families and sharing stories with their friends.
